It’s been a while since I wrote a blog post (sorry!) so I thought I’d write about what a rebrand is and why you might need one for your business – very fitting since I’ve just rebranded myself!
So, you’ll know you need those essential brand identity assets for your business in order to follow this through to every touchpoint of your customers journey. Whether you have opted for a full brand identity design or a single logo and created the other assets yourself, it’s these elements that make you recognisable to your audience.
You’ll want your brand identity design to be perfect and whether you’ve done it all yourself, or invested in working with a designer, your brand identity is essential in order to have a consistent look and feel for your business.
So you’re happy with your design, business, product offering, service etc…until you realise that actually your business has changed since you created your brand identity and all the other assets that make up your branding.
Perhaps you’ve realised you’re coming across as a bit of a hobbyist and seem to be attracting those clients who just want a bargain and aren’t wanting to invest in the higher prices you know you want (or need!) to be charging.
Maybe your current branding is amazing and you love it but it’s not quite working for your business anymore as you’re business has evolved and your ideal client has changed quite a bit since you last looked at your customer profile.
This is where a rebrand comes in!
Since being self employed, I have rebranded twice, once for each of my businesses.
The first was with my wedding stationery business. I hated my business name. Everything about my branding said hobbyist. I was attracting brides with very low budgets who wanted a cheap offer. They knew they needed invitations but they only wanted the essentials and what worked out as the cheapest option.
It was boring! I wasn’t getting to create the designs I was passionate about and I certainly wasn’t charging my worth!
So I worked on my ideal client, what I wanted from my business and set some goals. I made the decision to rebrand with a name change because I needed the confidence to not only tell people what I did without feeling embarrassed, but I wanted to be able to charge my worth and work with brides who wanted to invest in having the most beautiful stationery. Not those ‘tyre kickers’ (as my husband would say!) who are looking for a cheap deal!
I created a selection of designs that got me excited and that I was passionate about, I created a whole new brand identity design and invested in a website that completely attracted my ideal client!
You know what? Within 1 week of launching my rebrand I secured two bookings with brides who were my absolute dream clients! They didn’t want the boring cheap options. They loved my work and they wanted something unique! Something tailored for their wedding day – and they wanted to pay the price that I WANTED to charge! Not what the industry standard told me I should be charging! (Who ever even started this whole ‘industry standard’ rubbish? There really is no such thing!! – who ever said a pair of jeans is £x because that’s industry standard?! Jeans could be £5 from the local stack ’em high sell it cheap type shop – or it could be thousands of £s at a high end designer boutique! Everyone charges a different price, why should small businesses be any different? – anyway, that’s a topic for another day!)
For my other business (Bailey & Roo, obviously!) I made the decision to rebrand because as much as I loved my previous branding, it wasn’t me! As a service based business where my clients are investing in a service working with me rather than just buying a product it is so important that my personality comes across in my branding.
So I rebranded with a new brand identity design and website and also uplevelled my business to form an agency so I am able to take on the full end to end projects for each of my clients to create that full brand experience, from the brand identity design and website design, to the product photography, brand photography and packaging design.
So if you’re feeling embarrassed by your current branding, if your ideal client has changed, your product range has had a refresh or you’ve just simply got a bit bored of your current branding, that’s the perfect time to look at a rebrand!
Not only will it give confidence in your business, you’ll be able to charge your worth AND you’ll be attracting those dream customers who can’t resist but click to find out more, come and visit your shop or add to basket!
