You Do Know What to Say, You Just Don’t Know How to Communicate It

One of the most common things I hear from female entrepreneurs is this: “I just don’t know what to talk about.”

But here’s the truth…you do! You know what to say! You’ve probably said it a hundred times in conversations with clients, in the DM chats, at in person events with potential collaborators, or even in the shower when you’re mapping out ideas in your head.

The problem is the block that comes when it’s time to take your thoughts and share them publicly. It’s the fear of being visible. Of being judged. Of wondering if anyone even cares about what you have to say.

Sound familiar? You’re not alone. I have been there, for a huge majority of my life in fact! (But we won’t go into that fear of getting the answer wrong at school or sounding like a fool if you say the wrong thing – let’s dive into childhood trauma another day)

As women, stepping into visibility can feel daunting, especially when society has conditioned us to play small, to stay quiet, to avoid being “too much.” But here’s the thing: the world needs your voice. Your perspective. Your energy.

If you’re not sharing your gifts with your audience, you’re doing the clients that need you a disservice!

So, when those limiting beliefs creep in telling you that you can’t share anything because you don’t know what to say.

Here’s how you can overcome this…

1. Treat it like a conversation!

You wouldn’t approach someone (or have them approach you) and you just don’t speak. Words would come out of your mouth! Think about the last time you spoke with a client or friend. How easy was it to explain what you do, share your ideas, or offer advice?

Now imagine your online content as an extension of that same conversation. Write or speak as if you’re talking to one person. Forget about “audience” or “followers.” Just connect with that one person who needs to hear your message today.

When you simplify it like this, the pressure to be perfect disappears, and your voice becomes more authentic.

2. Create Before You Edit

The fear of getting it wrong often stops women from starting. We want every sentence to be polished, every thought to be perfect.

Here’s the secret though… just start. Write messy drafts. Record unfiltered voice notes. Let your ideas flow without judgment. And even if your content isn’t ‘perfect’ – just share it! You never know, it might actually be exactly what you needed to share in that moment.

Give yourself permission to just share your authentic voice – without worrying about whether it’s “good enough.”

3. Reframe Visibility as Service

When you feel blocked about being visible, ask yourself this:
What happens if the woman who needs to hear this doesn’t find it because I stayed quiet?

Your content isn’t about you. It’s about serving others. When you see visibility as an act of generosity – a way to help someone, inspire someone, or even just make them feel less alone – it shifts the focus away from self-doubt and towards connection.

4. Borrow Confidence from Community

If you’re struggling to show up, lean on the power of community. There’s something magical about being in rooms (online or in person) with women who are stepping into their power.

I’ve spent this year investing in spaces where women show up boldly and unapologetically, and it’s been SO transformative. When you see others thriving, it reminds you that you can, too.

Find your people – the ones who cheer for your wins and inspire you to keep going. They’ll help you borrow the confidence you need until it becomes your own.

5. Remember: Perfection Isn’t the Goal

People aren’t looking for perfect. They’re looking for real. (sorry but if you’re relying on AI or Chat GPT to write everything for you, you’re causing a red flag energy in your business because it’s not authentic and it will show in your content!)

Your dream clients and audience want to connect with you – your energy, your perspective, your story. The imperfect parts? That’s what makes you human and relatable because your dream clients feel seen. They feel like you really get them!
