Obviously social media is great but you need to be consistent. I’ve realised that Instagram isn’t where I get most of my business so I use this as an extension of my portfolio and to share more behind the scenes. I post on stories daily but my actual grid maybe once per week.
There is no point in posting on my grid more than this because it’s going to be a time suck. Plus I already know this platform isn’t the one that works best for me! You need to be consistent with posting on whatever platform you are using – posting on your grid/stories once per month if that is not going to cut it!! It’s easy to share content daily on stories and this will help your audience to get to know you. Remember, it doesn’t all have to be work related but you need to give a mix of value, your personality, past testimonials and images you have. You can share older content! So never give yourself the excuse of ‘I have nothing to post’ because I don’t believe you!
If you aren’t using Pinterest – please give it a go! I post one pin per day, each one links to a blog post, service, freebie, sales page or just my website homepage. Pinterest is a search engine so if you aren’t using this you are missing a trick! Most of my clients come from Pinterest now so it’s definitely one to look into and it takes me 5 minutes per day to create and post on here. Plus when you post on Pinterest, your content lasts and works for you for months, whereas Instagram it’s more like 24 hours or less before it gets lost in the sea of content.
SEO – please please please ensure you are using keywords on your website, make sure your page titles and descriptions have been applied to each and every page (using your keywords!) and that every image on your website has been named (again, using those keywords plus describing what’s in your image). All of my website designs come with this essential SEO package included as standard and honestly, it’s the difference between having a site that gets seen and not. So please action this ASAP if you haven’t already!
Think outside the box. Where are your clients likely to hang out? Where will they be? By this I mean your dream clients. Brainstorm ideas so you can start working on other ways of getting in front of your audience. It might be appearing as a guest on a Podcast, a press release in a magazine that you know they read, it might be being a preferred supplier of another business. Don’t just focus on what you do that helps your client right now, think about their journey, what are the steps they take before they even need you? Get in front of them at this stage so you’re already a no brainer when they do need you!
Get your face out there! I cannot stress enough how important this is. People buy from people. Trust me, I’ve been there and hidden behind client photos and things I’ve created. You are your brand so you need to be showing up as the face of your business and show your audience who you are. Otherwise you are just someone else that does what you do. You will only stand out when people can connect with you! Show your face on social media, on your website and attend in person events where your clients or peers will be that will help give your business that extra boost of visibility!
I am SO excited for the upcoming announcements I’ll be making for my plans for 2024. Did someone say retreat?! ;-p
