How I became a mentor (without planning to)

I never intended to be a coach or a mentor, it just happened. Back in 2018/2019 I saw so many people I admired suddenly becoming a coach and couldn’t figure it out.

Like, people actually pay just for support? I’d roll my eyes when I saw another person I knew start calling themself a coach. Seriously? Is this like a new trend?

I started to mentor without even realising in 2019, because I was being asked “how did you do that?”

I didn’t call myself a mentor for 4 years. Even though I had clients paying me for power hours, VIP days and support with scaling their business and brand.

I had a limiting belief that it wasn’t right to call myself a mentor because I had no qualifications, no certificate or training to be one.

But then I heard something that changed my limiting belief…

“But you don’t need any of that. A mentor is literally someone who teaches and supports others how to get a result by doing something they already are an expert in”

And it made me realise – heck, I’ve been in this industry my entire adult life. It’s all I know. There is SO much in my head from everything I’ve done over the years that I can help others with.

And that was when I started to officially call myself a mentor.

The scrappy business method…

My biggest struggle as a mentor is being clear on the one thing I help with.

I’m pretty certain I have ADHD. I always have multiple things happening at once. LOADS of tabs open on my computer when I’m working. I get distracted easily and to pick one thing is like picking my favourite puppy from a litter (I know right?!)

It works though 😄

Sure I help my clients to boost their visibility.
Attract and sign dream clients.
Go from blending in and giving ‘start up’ vibes to actually showing up as a leader in their field.
Boosting their income (sometimes tripling their income through creating premium offers that align with their incredible expertise)

And I love all of those things.

But to pick one thing. Whether that’s content upgrades. Building your brand. Boosting your visibility.

I can’t choose and nor do I want to because I love all of it.

Some people have the brand but need visibility support.

Others have the strategies, the audience, the engagement but their brand is aligned to who they were not who they’re becoming and they’re ready to upgrade.

Then others have no idea where to start but they know they’ve outgrown their current visuals and are ready to start showing up as a professional brand with the aesthetics, offers, messaging and content to align with their vision.

I used to get so frustrated because “unless you pick one you’re not making it clear to your audience” and I’d think there was something wrong with me.

But what I realised is some people are scrappy like me and it works.

Some people do like to jump around in their business and offers.

Then there are some of us who are super impatient and if something doesn’t feel right we change rather than keep forcing something in the hope it might work.

The one strategy to rule them all? Really?

There is no one right way to do business. Only YOUR way. And with the right support – running and scaling your brand becomes SO much more fun!

At the end of the day, if you’re not having fun in your business and your days are filled with exhaustion, overwhelm and frustration (like mine used to be) – what’s the point?

I work with the scrappy. The confident. The not so confident. The focused AF. The heart-led. The ones who have built the success and are ready for more.

The dream clients for me?

They have one thing in common.

They don’t care about the “luxury” lifestyle, but they DO care about changing lives and creating an impact in the world.
